Figma's Market Debut Signals Strong Appetite for Tech IPOs
The design software maker's stock surged 250% on its first trading day, closing at a valuation three times what Adobe had offered just two years earlier.

Figma's entry into public markets on Thursday demonstrated robust investor enthusiasm for technology IPOs, with the design software company's shares jumping 250% during their inaugural trading session.
The San Francisco firm priced its offering at $33 per share late Wednesday, surpassing the initial guidance range of $30 to $32. This pricing established an opening valuation exceeding $19 billion, though the stock's first-day performance dramatically exceeded that benchmark.
Trading concluded with Figma shares at $115.50, delivering a market capitalization near $68 billion by day's end. This figure dwarfs the $20 billion valuation Adobe had proposed when attempting to acquire the company in 2022, a transaction that ultimately collapsed due to regulatory opposition in Europe.
The successful debut reflects a broader resurgence in venture-backed technology listings. Following a period of weakness, the sector has experienced renewed momentum in recent months, highlighted by strong performances from CoreWeave, Circle Internet Group, Chime and comparable companies.
The offering generated approximately $1.2 billion in proceeds, with roughly one-third directed to Figma itself and the remainder distributed among existing shareholders liquidating positions.
The company appears positioned to deploy its capital aggressively. Co-founder and CEO Dylan Field stated in an IPO filing letter: "Expect us to take big swings when we see a chance to invest in our platform or pursue M&A at scale."
Figma's public market entry arrives following impressive financial performance. The company recorded $749 million in revenue during 2024, representing nearly 50% year-over-year expansion. First-quarter results this year demonstrated comparable growth trajectories.
The venture capital community has long championed Figma since its 2012 founding. The company accumulated roughly $700 million through traditional venture rounds and completed an additional $700 million secondary financing transaction last year, occurring several months after its Adobe merger agreement terminated.
Figma's cap table reflects prominent Silicon Valley investors. Index Ventures holds the largest stake at 16.8% of Class A shares, trailed by Greylock with 15.7%, Kleiner Perkins at 14%, and Sequoia Capital controlling 8.7%.
