Wawa has elevated Bill O'Donnell to the position of chief information technology officer, the convenience retailer confirmed. With more than 25 years at the company, O'Donnell will now lead the organization's technology strategy and operations, cybersecurity, digital platforms, data and analytics functions.

"Bill O'Donnell has more than 25 years of experience with Wawa in various roles and departments, including his newest role as Chief Information Technology Officer," a Wawa spokesperson stated.

Technology infrastructure underpins much of Wawa's business model, particularly in its made-to-order foodservice operations, which enable customers to place orders via mobile apps and in-store touchscreen kiosks. During the previous year, the chain rolled out a machine-learning system for demand forecasting and inventory replenishment aimed at minimizing food waste.

Before his promotion, O'Donnell held the title of senior director of retail fuels and business development at Wawa. His professional background also includes positions focused on fuels operations and project management. Additionally, he participates as a board member for The Wawa Foundation, which manages the company's philanthropic efforts.

Wawa did not provide additional details about O'Donnell's specific responsibilities or the identity of his predecessor in the CIO role.
