ServiceNow Debuts Flow, a Conversational Service Desk Built for Speed Over Complexity
ServiceNow is rolling out Flow, a natural language service desk tool that automates employee requests through Slack and Microsoft Teams without requiring a full IT service management overhaul.

ServiceNow Inc. is bolstering its service desk capabilities with Flow, a new offering that processes employee requests through conversational interfaces powered by artificial intelligence and automation. The company is positioning the tool for organizations seeking to streamline support operations while avoiding the overhead of a comprehensive information technology service management deployment.
Employees can submit requests directly through Slack and Microsoft Teams, receiving answers sourced from organizational knowledge and completing standard tasks without leaving those platforms. According to ServiceNow, teams can have Flow operational within a single day, with no implementation project or infrastructure additions needed.
Constructed on a fresh technology foundation, Flow opens a pathway for companies that have steered clear of ITSM software due to implementation complexity. The tool also appeals to individual departments, distributed offices and recently integrated business units within larger enterprises already running ServiceNow systems.
The introduction expands ServiceNow's addressable market to buyers wanting a service desk they can activate immediately while maintaining ties to its broader enterprise software ecosystem.
A Different Operating Model
Flow is for companies that want to work in a completely new way. It's automation built for speed and simplicity.

The platform focuses on frequent requests including password resets, account unlocks, access provisioning, policy inquiries and elementary troubleshooting. When employees describe their needs in conversational language, Flow locates pertinent information, executes actions or escalates matters to support staff while preserving conversation history.
Once a support agent resolves an issue, an IT manager can convert that resolution into an automated workflow with a single action, according to ServiceNow. Future identical requests then process automatically, eliminating the need for developer involvement or fresh knowledge base entries.
The capability extends beyond information retrieval: Flow can finalize requests or direct them to appropriate teams as circumstances require. The service includes more than 100 pre-integrated connectors that link to systems housing knowledge, resources, ticketing platforms or supporting automated operations.
A product demonstration displayed an employee querying company holiday schedules via Slack and obtaining an answer with a reference to the underlying document. When that same employee later encounters difficulty accessing a human resources platform, Flow proposes opening a ServiceNow incident and gathers issue specifics.
The demonstration also featured an automation that delivers virtual private network instructions, verifies whether access has been restored, assesses whether approval is required and obtains manager authorization before executing. A separate workflow example showed employee onboarding, encompassing workspace setup and credential provisioning.
Deployment and Expansion
For large organizations, Flow provides smaller teams a quicker path to deploying support infrastructure while preserving integration with the enterprise's broader service management platform. ServiceNow intends to broaden the conversational capability beyond IT operations into customer support and procurement functions.
The real value comes when those solutions can be easily automated and repeated at scale.
Stephen Elliot, group vice president of software development and IT operations at International Data Corp.
Customers highlighted in the announcement identified use cases extending past conventional internal IT assistance. One organization leverages shared Slack channels for client support, while two software firms emphasized faster access to internal documentation and fewer duplicate inquiries.
Someone asks a question in Slack, Flow pulls answers from what we've already documented, and if it's something new, we escalate it and learn from it, and Flow automates it the next time.

Availability and Pricing
Flow is available at no cost during its controlled availability phase, with North American customers receiving early access. ServiceNow has set Oct. 6 as the target date for general availability to existing customers in North America, followed by broader rollout across North America and Europe, the Middle East and Africa by year-end.
When Flow reaches general availability, pricing will operate on a consumption model, with a complimentary trial available before committing to purchase. Current ServiceNow customers holding AI entitlements will consume Flow from their existing allocation without acquiring a separate license. ServiceNow has not released specific consumption pricing details. Prospective customers can buy Flow using a credit card without maintaining an existing ServiceNow account.
