AWS Eyes $1 Trillion Revenue Mark as AI Accelerates Cloud Growth
Amazon's cloud division posted 39% year-over-year growth in Q3, with CEO Andy Jassy projecting the business could reach $1 trillion in annual revenue within five to ten years, driven by surging demand for AI infrastructure and services.

Amazon's cloud business delivered robust third-quarter results, with AWS achieving 39% year-over-year growth in fiscal 2026. The performance has positioned the division on a trajectory toward $1 trillion in annual revenue over the next five to ten years, according to CEO Andy Jassy.
Core compute and storage capabilities expanded at their quickest pace in years, Jassy noted during Thursday's earnings presentation. The company's backlog swelled to $578 billion on a year-over-year basis, fueled by fresh commitments from major technology firms including Meta, Nvidia, OpenAI, Salesforce and Oracle.
Continued investment in artificial intelligence capabilities remains central to Amazon's strategy as enterprises look to consolidate both traditional and AI workloads on AWS infrastructure. The company is rapidly expanding its capacity to meet this demand. "We're installing an AI accelerator about every 14 seconds and almost as fast as we install capacity, customers are gobbling it up," Jassy told investors.
Broader Cloud Market Momentum
The gains at Amazon reflect a broader surge across the cloud industry. Amazon, Microsoft and Google all experienced expansion in their cloud operations during the quarter, with artificial intelligence serving as a primary growth catalyst.
Cloud services spending climbed 55% in the third quarter, reaching $168 billion in total expenditure, according to research released Thursday by Synergy Research Group, now operating under TechInsights. Amazon maintains the largest market position with 26% share, while Microsoft holds 19% and Google commands 16%.
The artificial intelligence boom has reshaped the cloud landscape dramatically. Since ChatGPT's debut in 2022, the cloud market has expanded by 185%, the research found. AI-focused cloud services now represent one-third of the entire market.

Jassy reinforced this perspective during the earnings call, emphasizing that demand for foundational AWS services continues accelerating as organizations require inference capabilities to operate near their existing data and applications within the AWS ecosystem.
"This is a different model than primarily hosting GPUs or renting short-term data center capacity," Jassy explained. "This is a long-term platform strategy that broadly helps customers invent and evolve their customer experiences."
However, the artificial intelligence wave is also creating opportunities for newer entrants. Neocloud providers such as CoreWeave and Nebius are gaining traction, gradually eroding the combined market share held by the established hyperscalers, according to the research.
