The milestone was announced by Zhang Junjie, vice president of Ant Group and head of its health business, at the 2026 INCLUSION · Conference on the Bund in Shanghai. The platform is fielding nearly 20 million health-related inquiries each day, the company reported.

This represents substantial growth since February, when Ant Group disclosed 100 million users on the service. AQ debuted in June 2025 with a narrower scope, initially offering AI-powered features such as physician recommendations, hospital appointment scheduling and remote medical consultations.

Expanding from medical services to holistic wellness

Ant Group is repositioning AQ as a comprehensive health companion, broadening coverage into five key domains: weight, exercise, nutrition, sleep and mental wellbeing. A redesigned Health section on the app's homepage consolidates these offerings in one place.

The platform now enables users to sync smartwatches, fitness trackers and comparable wearable devices while maintaining dietary logs. AQ processes more than 10 health metrics, including weight and sleep patterns, to generate assessments, tailored insights and guidance. The system leverages past user interactions to issue timely reminders when it identifies shifts in behavioral patterns.

Zhang noted that "People often know what they should do to manage their health, but find it difficult to put that knowledge into practice." The company has rolled out capabilities including AI Food Scan for calorie tracking, AI Vitality Management and an AI weight management coach.

Market drivers and early results

Health has become increasingly important to Chinese consumers. According to Accenture's China Consumer Insights report released in November 2025, 87% of Chinese consumers prioritized health in 2025, compared with 78% in 2021.

Ant Group is testing whether AI-powered coaching can produce tangible shifts in user behavior. A weight management program launched nationwide in June enrolled 2.75 million participants who collectively shed more than 2.5 million kilograms by September, according to company figures.

AQ's massive user base offers Ant Group a substantial foundation for monetizing health data and AI-generated recommendations through subscription and recurring offerings. However, this scale also heightens the stakes around recommendation accuracy, personal health data safeguarding and collaboration with qualified medical professionals as the app takes on greater responsibility for health management.

Zhang stated that "Health management requires collaboration across the ecosystem and a long-term commitment."

Future direction and ecosystem partnerships

Ant Group intends to deepen AQ's reach through alliances with smart hardware makers, food and beverage companies, fitness providers and nutritional brands, embedding the app more deeply into daily user behavior. This trajectory could shift AQ's function from addressing isolated health questions toward continuously processing user data and delivering ongoing recommendations.

As this role becomes more central to users' health decisions, the platform's trustworthiness will hinge on the dependability of its recommendations, the involvement of credentialed health experts and the transparency with which Ant Group manages the sensitive personal information underpinning the service.
