Mistlabs Exits Beta With Ambi AI on Apple Devices, Secures $26M for Wearable Push
The ambient intelligence startup has launched its proactive AI system across Apple's ecosystem and is building dedicated hardware to expand Ambi's contextual awareness.

Mistlabs Ltd., an ambient intelligence company, has moved its Ambi artificial intelligence system from beta into general availability on Apple Inc. devices. The launch comes alongside a $26 million funding round that will support development of a standalone wearable device.
Unlike conventional AI platforms engineered to respond to explicit user requests, Ambi operates proactively. According to Chief Executive Peter Mo, "understand, reason and act in real time" represents the core difference—enabling the system to take action "before the user even thinks to ask."
The system builds its understanding of individual users through audio captured on their iPhone, Apple Watch or Mac. As Mistlabs explains, Ambi's grasp of a person's working preferences strengthens continuously. The software maintains continuity across devices, allowing ongoing tasks to seamlessly transition between a Mac, phone or watch without interruption.
How Ambi Works in Practice
Users can establish a Routine that delegates recurring work to multiple agents simultaneously. Each agent draws on Ambi's accumulated knowledge about that individual. In one scenario Mistlabs describes, agents monitor a competitive discussion in real time, fact-checking claims as they arise. The system might complete product comparisons and draft proposals on the user's MacBook before the meeting concludes, then continue refining the work afterward by identifying gaps or tracking new information.
Agent-to-Agent Negotiation Coming Soon
Mistlabs plans to introduce agent-to-agent negotiation capabilities within the coming months. When two Ambi users meet, their respective agents would leverage what each knows about its owner, then work collaboratively toward mutually acceptable outcomes. The system would highlight potential disagreements while the conversation unfolds. Users retain full control through permissions that define what their agent can execute.
Funding and Hardware Plans
The $26 million Pre-A round was led by Luminous Ventures and Huaqin Technology Co. Ltd., a Shanghai-based manufacturer of smart devices for other companies. Mo indicated that the capital will fund development of Mistlabs' own wearable, which will supply Ambi with richer context about users and their environment. Hardware expansion, he noted, will enable the system to reach "entirely new device types" in the future.
Ambi is now accessible on Macs and on Apple devices running iOS 18, with audio storage disabled by default. Prospective users interested in the wearable can register on a waitlist, with the device expected to arrive later this year.
