After departing Scale AI in July 2022, Jackson Wagner is now launching Corridor, an artificial intelligence-powered health benefits brokerage targeting small and medium-sized businesses. The company addresses a gap in the market: traditional brokerages tend to overlook smaller accounts because they generate lower commissions despite requiring the same operational effort as larger clients.

Corridor's model pairs human advisors with AI agents that handle routine administrative work. The artificial intelligence handles tasks such as verifying whether a doctor participates in a customer's plan, arranging appointments, and communicating insurance details to healthcare providers.

We are every single employee and management's concierge for all things healthcare

The company announced Monday that it closed a $25 million seed funding round with Bain Capital Ventures as the lead investor.

From Personal Crisis to Startup Vision

Wagner's path to founding Corridor began with a running accident that resulted in ongoing complications. Seeking to address his health challenges, he departed Scale AI to pursue a master's degree in computer science and electrical engineering at UC Berkeley. In 2023, he joined Build Robotics before reconnecting with Eric Qian, a former colleague from Scale AI, to develop Capernaum AI, a startup creating clinical software for musculoskeletal conditions and chronic pain management.

When Wagner and Qian approached Cold Start for funding of Capernaum, partners Nikhil Aggarwal and Jason Dong recognized a broader opportunity. The four founders pivoted to establish Corridor instead.

Since health plans are the window through which the vast majority of Americans access health care, it became overwhelmingly clear that one of the highest impact things I could do to improve outcomes for individuals was to create a way for them to access better health plans

Market Timing and Competition

Corridor is positioning itself strategically around the annual benefits selection cycle. According to Aggarwal, "80% of small businesses choose their health plan in Q4," making the fourth quarter a critical period for the company's growth.

The startup enters a competitive landscape that includes Ignition Benefits and Nava Benefits. Corridor's seed round included participation from BoxGroup and executives from OpenAI, Scale AI, and Ramp.

Our vision is to build the most trusted healthcare institution in America. To earn that, we are laser-focused on a simple promise: doing what we say we're going to do for the businesses and employees we serve.
