Body Scanning Startups Attract Billions in Venture Bets
Spotify founder Daniel Ek's Neko Health has secured $700 million to commercialize preventative health screening, joining a wave of well-funded startups betting on full-body scanning as the future of healthcare.

Several venture-backed companies are racing to establish body scanning as a cornerstone of preventative medicine. Neko Health, backed by Spotify founder Daniel Ek, has raised $700 million to build its scanning-centered business model. The startup is not alone in this bet: Midjourney is developing its own body-scanning technology, and Function Health has also secured substantial funding to expand its preventative-health offering. The convergence of capital flowing into this category raises questions about what is driving investor enthusiasm.
On a recent episode of TechCrunch's Equity podcast, host Dominic-Madori Davis spoke with Farooq Abbasi, founder and general partner of Preface Ventures and an investor in Neko Health, to examine how Neko positions itself relative to other consumer-health ventures. The conversation explored the conditions necessary for body scanning to gain acceptance as part of the mainstream healthcare infrastructure.
