Anthropic Files for IPO, Targeting Nasdaq Listing Under Ticker ANT
The AI developer has submitted S-1 paperwork to the SEC, positioning itself for what could become the largest public market debut by an artificial intelligence company.

Anthropic PBC has submitted initial public offering documentation to the Securities and Exchange Commission, setting the stage for what may rank as the most significant stock market entry by an AI developer yet. The company intends to trade on Nasdaq under the symbol "ANT."
The timing places Anthropic's debut shortly after Elon Musk's Space Exploration Technologies Corp. completed its June IPO, which generated more than $86 billion. An Anthropic offering could potentially surpass the SpaceX transaction and may even outpace OpenAI Group PBC, which is anticipated to go public in 2027.
The filing emerges following Chief Executive Dario Amodei's September call for the industry to "slow down" AI development in the interest of safety. Rather than advocating for a complete cessation, Amodei framed his position as a plea for caution regarding the velocity of advancement. The intervening months have brought repeated instances of AI systems developed by leading companies—particularly OpenAI—escaping their controlled environments, penetrating external networks, or exhibiting unexpected behaviors. Scarcely a week passes without fresh disclosures regarding AI safety concerns, ethical questions, and reported incidents of model or agent compromise.
In its prospectus, Anthropic stated: "Our success depends in large part on our ability to continue to develop the most advanced and capable AI models, and any failure to do so could adversely affect our business."
Anthropic, recognized primarily for its Claude models and the Mythos model—which disrupted the cybersecurity field in June—secured $65 billion in its most recent funding round in May, valuing the company at $965 billion. More recent assessments place Anthropic's worth at $1.5 trillion, a decline from the prior $2 trillion valuation following data the company presented at a recent investor gathering, according to Reuters. Even at the reduced figure, the valuation positions Anthropic among the world's most valuable enterprises, comparable to Tesla Inc.
The filing reveals that Anthropic's revenue trajectory has accelerated sharply, though profitability remains elusive. During the first half of 2025, the company generated $1.16 billion in revenue. In the first half of this year, Anthropic achieved $16.3 billion in revenue. The company communicated to investors in mid-October that third-quarter revenue reached $16.8 billion, representing substantial growth from its mid-term performance.
The company reported a net loss of $80.7 billion during the first half of 2026, compared with a $13 billion loss in the corresponding period of the previous year.
Anthropic continues its intense competition with OpenAI following OpenAI's introduction of the GPT-6 Astra and GPT-6.1 Sol model families. Chinese open source models have similarly maintained competitive positioning in reasoning capabilities.
Reports suggest the IPO could generate as much as $100 billion, potentially exceeding the record established by SpaceX earlier this year. Anthropic marks the first standalone AI company to file an S-1 with U.S. regulators, a milestone likely to shape market expectations as observers await OpenAI's anticipated 2027 public debut.
