Schmidt's Anthropic stake could be worth $20 billion if the AI lab goes public this year
The former Google chief's reported 1% holding in Anthropic dwarfs even CEO Dario Amodei's equity position, positioning Schmidt for a massive windfall should the company pursue an IPO.

Former Google CEO Eric Schmidt stands to significantly expand his wealth through his stake in Anthropic, the prominent artificial intelligence laboratory. According to Bloomberg reporting, Schmidt holds roughly 1% of Anthropic following a substantial investment during the company's Series A funding round in 2021. At that time, Anthropic carried a valuation of $461 million, per PitchBook data.
Schmidt's ownership stake is notably substantial when measured against the holdings of company leadership. Co-founder and Chief Executive Dario Amodei maintains approximately 2% of the organization. Industry observers anticipate Anthropic will pursue a public listing before year's end, with some projections placing the company's valuation as high as $2 trillion. Should the company achieve that valuation, Schmidt's position could translate into as much as $20 billion in additional wealth. Bloomberg currently estimates Schmidt's total net worth at $57.5 billion.
Since departing his role as Google CEO in 2011, Schmidt has maintained an active investment portfolio across the technology sector. His capital deployment occurs through several vehicles, encompassing Tomorrow Ventures, Innovation Endeavors Management, and Hillspire, his personal family office. Beyond Anthropic, Schmidt has committed capital to other artificial intelligence ventures, including Mistral, General Intuition, and Reflection AI.
