Ahead of the IBC 2026 conference in Amsterdam, Amazon Web Services Inc. unveiled a suite of enhancements to its AWS Elemental service designed to embed artificial intelligence throughout the live video streaming pipeline. The additions—which include server-side dynamic multiview capabilities, real-time scene analysis, low-latency ad insertion, and automated ad yield optimization—aim to address the gap between what modern viewers expect and what most streaming platforms currently deliver.

The global live streaming market has surpassed $100 billion in value, according to Grand View Research, yet most platforms struggle to satisfy audience demands. Today's viewers seek more than passive consumption; they want adjustable camera angles during sports broadcasts, instantaneous personalization features, and advertisements aligned with their interests. Despite these expectations, the technical complexity involved has prevented most broadcasters from implementing all these capabilities simultaneously.

"Because each has historically required its own vendor, its own pipeline and its own operational overhead, competing priorities force teams to choose which to pursue first, rather than delivering all three at once," explained Kali Ridley, senior technical industry product marketing manager for media and entertainment at AWS. AWS's strategy consolidates these fragmented solutions by embedding machine learning and dynamic stream compositing directly into the AWS Elemental core video pipeline, eliminating the operational burden of managing separate integrations.

Dynamic Multiview and Cost Reduction

AWS Elemental MediaPackage Dynamic Multiview enables viewers to select their preferred camera angle in real time from multiple simultaneous feeds of the same event. The technology accomplishes this by merging multiple feeds within a single compressed domain using a single set of encoded sources from AWS Elemental MediaLive, eliminating the need to re-encode each feed individually. According to Ridley, this methodology cuts layout infrastructure expenses by as much as 97%, with streams compatible with standard HTTP Live Streaming and Dynamic Adaptive Streaming over HTTP protocols across virtually any consumer device.

JioHotstar, India's prominent livestreaming platform offering live cricket, football, tennis and additional sports alongside on-demand content similar to Netflix, has become an early adopter of this technology. "AWS Elemental MediaPackage Multiview lets us deliver multiple synchronized camera angles within a single stream, putting our subscribers in control of how they experience live sports," stated JioHotstar Chief Technology Officer Akash Saxena. "The server-side composition approach scales this premium experience to over 100 million viewers without multiplying origin complexity or CDN costs, giving us a true differentiator in India's competitive OTT landscape."

Metadata Extraction and Ad Placement

For broadcast and advertising operations, AWS introduced AWS Elemental Inference Contextual Metadata, which deploys computer vision algorithms alongside video encoding to generate real-time, scene-level metadata from live video content. This extracted information flows into subsequent processing stages to facilitate rapid highlight generation, contextual advertisement placement, and content moderation, Ridley noted.

The newly launched AWS Elemental MediaTailor Yield Optimization addresses monetization challenges by automatically populating unfilled advertisement slots using data from Amazon Publisher Services. By inserting these advertisements into the content stream before distribution, the system guarantees smooth ad playback without interruptions while circumventing ad-blocking software. Broadcasters gain the ability to establish minimum price thresholds and brand safety parameters, preventing rival companies from positioning advertisements in adjacent inventory.

AWS Elemental MediaTailor Low-Latency Ad Insertion permits targeted advertisement delivery within low-latency livestreams, enabling broadcasters to generate revenue from time-sensitive events like major sports competitions and breaking news coverage through dynamic advertising strategies.

South American streaming service DSPORTS utilized AWS Elemental MediaTailor alongside Amazon CloudFront to monetize its FIFA World Cup coverage. "Our team set out to monetize low-latency streaming without giving up the latency itself, which had not been done on our platform before," said Claudio Rodrigues da Silva, head of IT at StreamCo. "Through DSPORTS's coverage of the FIFA World Cup, we held six seconds glass-to-glass with ads running across every match."

Integrated Intelligence Architecture

All new capabilities share a fundamental design principle: intelligence operates within existing video processing workflows rather than being added as external components. Since these features operate within the unified AWS Elemental service, they generate compounding advantages for broadcasters. AWS Elemental Inference produces the metadata necessary for intelligent ad selection, MediaPackage Dynamic Multiview delivers personalized viewing and advertising experiences, and MediaTailor integrates everything into low-latency streams.
